The makers of black mirror use
the show to reflect many of their opinions and fears about technology. However, I believe that many of their
opinions/ fears of the makers are completely outrageous and do not reflect an
overall majority of society. One example of this is the rooms that each person
live in in the episode “15 Million Merit Points”. This shows the fears of the
authors is that the authors believe that technology will take control of our
lives. This is shown by everything about these rooms is technology is
controlling these people and that they cannot escape, but this fear seems very
far-fetched. In our society, yes there are people who use technology a lot, but
they are not forced to and they have the decision to leave the computer or
phone any time they want they are not forced to stay on their device. In the
episode “15 Million Merit Points” they are forced to involve their whole life
around technology and are forced into technology, which seems unrealistic
because of parody theories like this, there will always be the option to move/
stay away from technology otherwise people would declare it against human
rights to be forced into such technology.
I disagree with the opinion that
black mirror clearly shows. While it is true that some people will definitely
over use technology, but technology is not to be assumed that is all bad.
Technology can be used to see experiences that we would never see. An example
is an animal like a polar bear. Many people would never see one in real life,
but with the use of technology we are able to see polar bears and see and
experience that you would have never been seen without technology. Another
example of technology being used for good is how we are able to distribute
information all over the world. Before it was difficult to get in touch with
anyone, a letter would take at least three weeks to talk to someone. But with
technology, you can get in touch with people in minutes. This example is shown
through phones. Phones are used to quickly connect and call other people when
it is required or helps people quickly respond to an emergency. That is how I
disagree with black mirror’s opinion of black mirror being negative and that
technology is just as positive as it can be negative.
